Nottingham Forest remain keen on Sean Dyche should they choose to part ways with Steve Cooper in the coming days.

The Reds were thrashed 4-0 by Leicester last night and a run of five straight defeats has piled the pressure on the head coach.

Rafa Benitez has been linked with a move to the City Ground but The Guardian claims that Dyche is also in the mix.

The former Burnley manager was fired from his position in April and is waiting for the right opportunity to get back in.

Dyche has a property in Nottingham and was part of the club’s youth team when the legendary Brian Clough was in charge on Trentside.

The 51-year-old spent almost 10 years in place at Turf Moor and oversaw two promotions to the Premier League.

He departed with the team in the relegation zone and the Clarets were actually unable to avoid dropping into the Championship.

It’s like that Dyche and his trusted assistant, Ian Woan, would relish the chance to return to management at Forest.

No decision has been made on Cooper just yet. He does look to be on the brink though after a dreadful run which has seen them slip to the foot of the table.

Most fans are firmly in the corner of Cooper. He deserves a chance to put things right but ultimately Evangelos Marinakis doesn’t want to be heading back to the Championship.

Forest do therefore need contingency plans. Dyche would represent a change in approach but it’d be a more welcome appointment than Rafa Benitez would be.

Dyche would instantly understand the ethos at Forest. He could also prove a decent firefighter with the Reds languishing at the bottom of the league.

Still, there is hope that Cooper can earn a little more time. A couple more defeats in succession would make his situation untenable.

For now, he definitely deserves a crack at turning things around.
