Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Nottingham Forest could hand Steve Cooper another chance to revive the team’s form.
He’s claimed that talks of him being sacked are not as close as some are making out and no decision has been made.
Cooper has come under scrutiny after the Reds were battered 4-0 against Leicester City last night.
Some reports shortly after the full-time whistle claimed that Rafa Benitez had been lined up for a return to management.
It would appear that those talks are premature though and Cooper could get next week’s game at home to Aston Villa.
The Reds head coach has been in charge at the City Ground for just over a year.
In that time he’s taken the team from the bottom of the Championship and led them to the Premier League.
That dream has quickly become a nightmare though and Forest have lost five straight games in the top flight.
Still, with 22 new players to blend together, it was always likely to be a tough start for the Reds this season.
This news from Romano will delight the Forest fan base who couldn’t hold Cooper in any more regard than they already do.
He’s brought the feel-good factor back to the City Ground and with that in mind, he deserves a chance to turn things around.
Romano has suggested that Cooper will get another Forest chance
This will be a relief to Forest fans. They desperately want Cooper to stay and be given more time by the owner.
Marinakis isn’t known to be a patient type and the challenge for him is to show the same loyalty to Cooper that the Welshman has to the club.
The burgeoning head coach is viewed as a future incumbent at a top club. His methods are advanced and Forest could target a lot worse.
If Benitez is the answer then who knows what the question is? As a result, Forest have to give Cooper more time and this update from Romano is somewhat relieving.
