Kevin Nolan has said that Nottingham Forest attacker Jesse Lingard will be disappointed after Monday’s defeat against Leicester.

He provided punditry for Premier League Productions (03/10; 22:10) and discussed the former Hammers star.

Lingard fluffed his lines with a clearance in the first half and moments later James Maddison had opened the scoring.

The 29-year-old chose Forest over West Ham during the summer and that didn’t go down too well in East London.

His start to life at Forest hasn’t entirely gone according to plan and Steve Cooper will be hoping for more.

The former Manchester United man didn’t do much of a pre-season and that’s showing right now.

Nolan thinks he will be really disappointed with his efforts in the all-East Midlands clash on Monday night.

He told Premier League Productions (03/10: 22/10): “Jesse is going to be disappointed because a man of his talent and quality should be clearing that.

“His quality is there for all to see, but that’s where the ball should end up (towards the halfway line). Two seconds later it’s in the back of the Forest net and that was the start of the end for them.”

Nolan has said Lingard will be disappointed

It was a costly error from Lingard that started Forest’s downfall. Nolan is right to presume he will be gutted with his attempted clearance.

The Reds have to learn quickly. Their Premier League dream is becoming a nightmare and they’re in danger of being cast adrift at the bottom.

Lingard does have quality though. Given that he’s being paid a sizeable wage, it seems clear that he will continue to get chances.

The player has 32 caps for England and played over 200 times for Manchester United during his 10 years at Old Trafford.

Lingard has to get up to speed quickly though and for Steve Cooper’s sake, hopefully, he can star against Aston Villa next week.
