Nottingham Forest are considering a move to make Nuno Espirito Santo their new manager, according to The Athletic.

The Reds don’t need a manager just yet, but Steve Cooper is in a perilous position.

Forest have lost their last five games in the Premier League and contingency plans are now in place.

Nothing is close at the City Ground but the club’s hierarchy are certainly considering a change in the hot seat.

Espirito Santo has experience in England, although his last job didn’t quite go to plan.

He joined Tottenham in the summer of 2021 but lasted until November after a run of five defeats in seven matches.

His record with Wolves was exemplary though and his side that won the Championship drew lots of praise in 2018.

The Portuguese boss also helped them stabilise as a Premier League club following the promotion.

Espirito Santo is in work at the moment. He’s currently in charge of Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Professional League.

Still, it’s unlikely he will remain loyal to them should another crack at the Premier League arise with Forest.

Espirito Santo is an experienced manager. He’s also led Porto, Valencia and Rio Ave during a career that’s been largely successful.

The 48-year-old left Wolves with a win percentage of 47.7%, winning 95 of his 199 matches in charge.

Forest considering Espirito Santo

This is certainly a better link than Rafa Benitez.

Espirito Santo didn’t star at Wolves but replacing Jose Mourinho was always likely to be a difficult challenge.

He would represent a decent appointment though.

The manager has a proven track record of keeping clubs in the Premier League and he’s a useful tactician.

Espirito Santo was perhaps not given much time at Tottenham and he’d have a point to prove at Forest.

For now, it seems like Cooper will stay.

That will delight the fans who are desperate to see things work out for him at the City Ground.

Ultimately, if results don’t improve, however, a change will be made.
