Nottingham Forest have withdrawn the offer of a new contract to head coach Steve Cooper, according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds placed the offer of a new deal on the table during the summer, shortly after he led the team to promotion.

This development does little to quash the notion that the club’s hierarchy are preparing to make a change.

It’s thought that certain figures among the club’s board of directors weren’t overly pleased with Cooper in the summer.

An unwillingness to sign the contract saw some concerns raised from staff members at the board level.

Now, Cooper is in a perilous position and he could be sacked if Forest don’t make an improvement against Aston Villa on Monday.

The Reds slipped to the bottom of the league this week.

They were battered 4-0 by Leicester and it was the third game running that Forest have completely thrown the towel in.

Cooper was offered a new deal during the summer by the Reds.

He will be out of contract at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and Forest were keen to tie him up.

The Welshman is a humble man and he didn’t see the summer as a time for things to be about him.

Forest went on a recruitment drive that saw the club bring 22 new signings to the City Ground.

Forest have withdrawn new contract offer to Cooper

This is a sad state of affairs.

Once again, it would appear there is no long-term strategy and that does offer a worry for the fans.

Cooper is the best thing to happen to Forest in many years.

As a result, the club would be very wise and would earn lots of plaudits if they stuck by him and tried to continue building.

Forest did spend a lot of money in the summer but what they achieved under Cooper shouldn’t go unrecognised.

Hopefully, Forest can get some wins on the board before the World Cup.

If they do, the club should rethink their decision to withdraw the offer of a new contract to Cooper.
