Report: Serial winner wants Wolves job but 62-year-old doesn’t fancy Nottingham Forest

Rafa Benitez wants the Wolves job but the Daily Mail claims that he’s not interested in Nottingham Forest.

They say that beggars can’t be choosers. That makes Benitez’s claims somewhat odd given that his stock is hardly high.

That might sound strange given what Benitez has won in the game but he’s very much a manager who has seen his best days come and go.

Just ask Everton fans.

Some might say that as a former Liverpool incumbent, he was destined to fail but he did so in emphatic fashion.

An immediate new manager bounce was followed by a run of 14 games without a win. His p45 came just six months into his time at the club.

Now, the man who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 wants a return to the Premier League.

He’s not keen on a move to Forest though and instead fancies heading further south to take over at Molineux.

Wolves have shown some ambition in the past with their appointments.

Nuno Espirito Santo played some lovely football to get them promoted and they recovered from a bad start under Bruno Lage last season.

It seems unlikely that Benitez would get the Wolves gig.

He doesn’t fit the profile of the club and they will likely target an attack-minded coach to take them forward.

Benitez wants in Wolves job

This is truly fantastic news.

Forest fans, in the main, don’t want Steve Cooper to depart but things have to change quickly.

Even if the worst-case scenario does come true, Benitez isn’t wanted on Trentside.

He typically brings baggage wherever he goes and his stubborn approach won’t wash with a lot of the current players.

Benitez is a household name and he does have a quality CV.

It’s all in the past though and Forest have to steer well clear of an appointment that would make the decision to hire Martin O’Neill in 2019 exciting.

If Benitez is pining for the Wolves job, he might be left waiting by the phone for quite some time.
