Nottingham Forest have appointed former Watford figure Filippo Giraldi as the club’s new sporting director – but Dane Murphy looks set to leave.

The Reds confirmed the appointment on their official website yesterday; with Evangelos Marinakis making some tweaks behind the scenes.

Giraldi was responsible for bringing Richarlison, Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure to Watford during his time at the club.

Now, his first remit will be to keep close tabs on Steve Cooper, with the Forest boss currently under severe pressure.

The Reds have lost five Premier League games on the trot and that has pushed the Welsh head coach to the brink of being sacked.

Forest added 22 new players to their squad during the summer. As a result, it was always going to prove tricky in the opening stages of the season.

Giraldi has been with Watford for nine years. He initially joined as a chief scout but became technical director in 2014.

Whilst he was at the club, the Hornets spent five successive years in the Premier League and achieved a highest-ever points total in 2018/19.

It does appear to be the end of the road for Dane Murphy, however.

The Telegraph claims that he looks set to leave the club at some point this week. As a result, it appears he will carry the can for a poor start to the season.

Murphy checked in at the club during the summer of 2021 and was largely instrumental in the appointment of Steve Cooper.

Forest have appointed Giraldi

If it’s not buying players Forest are in the news for it’s appointing staff.

It really has been a mental summer at the City Ground and the autumn is showing no signs of being quiet either.

Forest have now appointed Giraldi and it’s fair to say that he’s got bags of experience.

He did plenty of good stuff at Watford and the hope will be that he can now put Forest in a better place.

No sporting director ever gets every piece of recruitment spot on.

The challenge for Giraldi is to do his best to make sure Forest don’t live to rue their decision to get rid of Murphy.
