Nottingham Forest have placed Bruno Lage on a shortlist of managers to replace Steve Cooper, according to The Athletic.
The Portuguese incumbent was recently dismissed by Wolves and is being eyed for an immediate Premier League return.
Lage spent just over a season at Molineux with pretty limited success.
He won 19 of his 51 matches in charge, leaving with a win percentage of 19% and led Wolves to a 10th place finish.
The Wolves board are ambitious though and the boss was dismissed earlier this month with the club sat in 18th place in the league.
Lage managed Benfica before joining Wolves and he did have more success in Portugal.
There he helped the team win the league title in 2018/19 and won 51 of the 76 matches he took charge of.
Lage was pretty pragmatic with his style during his time at Wolves, however, and that won’t appease the fan base.
Managing Benfica is one thing but taking charge of a team bottom of the Premier League is a completely different matter.
Cooper’s future is up in the air. Forest have lost five straight matches and really must win against Aston Villa on Monday.
If they don’t, it looks very likely that the Welshman will be losing his City Ground role.
Lage placed on Forest shortlist
You’ll have to forgive us for not jumping with joy at this one.
For context, Laga was sacked after his team scored just three times during 2022/23 so his style clearly leaves a lot to be desired.
The Reds might find themselves in the need for a new manager soon but Lage is a strange link.
He’s clearly not quite up to the challenge of the Premier League and he’s hardly a similar sort of manager to Cooper.
Lage is pragmatic and the players that have been added this summer suit a more flexible approach to the game.
It’s not hard to understand why Forest’s hierarchy might be considering replacing Cooper.
Football is a results-based business but no way on this earth should the new manager be ex-Wolves boss Lage.
