Stan Collymore has told Steve Cooper to hold a frank conversation with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The Reds put an end to any speculation on Friday by enticing Cooper to sign a new contract until 2025.
Reports had been rife after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Leicester that a change could be imminent.
It would appear that things were calmer behind the scenes than they were in the media and on Twitter!
Forest have now avoided a knee-jerk decision and idle gossip about the head coach can quieten down.
Collymore is pleased to see Cooper remain in charge on Trentside.
He has, however, offered the Welshman some advice when it comes to what to say the next time he speaks to Marinakis.
The former Forest striker told Nottinghamshire Live: “Now Steve Cooper has signed a new three-year deal, I hope he can sit down during the World Cup with the owners and the recruitment team and have a full and frank conversation.
“What I’d love for him to say is, ‘Right, I have identified the 15 or 16 players I want to work with and these are the ones I don’t want’.
“Whether they stay up or not, he has earned the right to still be in the job at the start of next season. I’m convinced that, either way, with a sane and sensible squad, will really see Cooper fly in the next year or two.”

The club’s owner seems approachable and Cooper has spoken before about his past conversations with him.
Having signed so many players in the summer, it was always going to be hard.
Collymore is perhaps right too in the sense that soon Cooper will know which players he wants and which he doesn’t.
The quicker the head coach realises that the better it will be in terms of the squad looking more fluent.
The main thing, however, is that Cooper is at Forest to stay and that has united the fan base once again.
