Nottingham Forest have handed Steve Cooper a new contract and the Reds are now expecting Dane Murphy to stay too.

According to The Telegraph, the American CEO is expected to remain on Trentside despite rife speculation.

It was a hectic week at Forest last week if you believe everything that is printed in the media.

Forest behind the scenes were perhaps a little bit calmer and collected though, with the week finishing in style.

It was claimed at various points that Cooper was on the brink of leaving; with the club’s recruitment team also in the firing line.

Murphy was appointed in the summer of 2021 and was instrumental in appointing Cooper.

Clearly, something has taken place behind the scenes though and now the 42-year-old will remain at the club.

Cooper always speaks fondly and with warmth about managing Forest and he gets the ethos of the football club.

He enjoys a strong relationship with Murphy and it’s great to understand they’re singing from the same hymn sheet.

Murphy caught the eye in his work as a football director at Barnsley.

He was instrumental in the club surviving relegation in 2019/20 and then defying the odds and reaching the play-offs the season after.

Forest poached him and Murphy appointing Cooper might be his greatest achievement.

Forest expecting Murphy to stay

Some people simply love to be negative towards Evangelos Marinakis and the club’s hierarchy.

Ultimately, the Reds owner has pumped lots of money into the club since he arrived in England.

Naturally, it was anticipated that some heads would roll following a poor start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Now, however, it seems as though the club have remained calm and decided to stick with Cooper and Murphy.

As a young CEO, the Forest man is still learning his way in the game but he’s a real asset.

He seriously knows what he is doing and in appointing Cooper in the first place he deserves some credit in the bank.

Murphy staying is great news for the club and last week’s speculation can now end.
