Matty Cash returned to Nottingham Forest on Monday night and the Aston Villa man has posted an emotional Tweet.

The right-back left the City Ground in 2020, joining Aston Villa for a fee of £16 million.

Since he left Forest his career has gone to another level and he’s now an international with Poland too.

Cash returned to action after missing a month with a hamstring problem on Monday and looked in good nick.

He marauded down the right-hand side in the same fashion that Forest fans have become accustomed to seeing on Trentside.

It was Sabri Lamouchi who gave Cash the platform to become a top Premier League player.

As a winger, Cash always tried his best but it’s fair to say he was unlikely to earn a top-flight move in that position.

Lamouchi gave him a chance at right-back and the youngster never really looked back, producing the goods week after week.

Cash made 141 appearances for the Reds, scoring 13 goals and registering 15 assists during his time at the club.

He’s now collected seven caps for Poland and he will hope to stay fit ahead of the World Cup which starts next month.

Cash posted an emotional message on Twitter

Forest fans love Cash.

Of all the players to have emerged from the academy ranks, the 25-year-old is arguably one of the most likeable.

He gave his all every time he played for the club and was Forest’s Player of the Year during the 2019/20 campaign.

It’s a shame that his time at Forest had to come to an end but ultimately, the Reds needed the money.

After returning to the City Ground in midweek, he’s taken to Twitter to thank the Forest faithful for their backing.

Following the draw, Cash went around all four stands and gave the City Ground faithful a warm round of applause.

The talented player will always be fondly remembered by the Forest fans and it’s good to know it’s reciprocated by Cash.
