Nottingham Forest made an ambitious attempt to sound out Thomas Tuchel before handing Steve Cooper a new contract.
The German manager was sacked by Chelsea last month after less than two years in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel isn’t keen on a sabbatical from the game and is keen to get back to work as quickly as possible.
He led Chelsea to Champions League glory during the 2020/21 campaign and for that, he will go down in Blues folklore.
Tuchel won 60 of his 100 games in charge of Chelsea and left with a win percentage of 60%.
Still, despite that remarkable statistic, it wasn’t enough for new owner Todd Boehly and he was handed his papers.
Tuchel is something of a seasoned manager having been in charge of Mainz, Dortmund and PSG.
Forest showed some ambition in the transfer market during the summer, spending over £150 million.
It seems that the club recently showed some more ambition off the field with the hierarchy sounding out Tuchel.
The Athletic claims that the Forest board made enquiries about the manager but quickly discovered landing him wouldn’t be possible.
As a result, the club decided to make a statement by backing Cooper and handing him a new contract.

It’s hard to knock the Reds when it comes to being ambitious.
If you don’t buy a ticket you can’t win the raffle. With regards to Tuchel, the Reds might as well throw the whole book of tickets down the drain.
The 49-year-old is destined for much bigger things.
His next job is likely to see him manage another top European club, especially given that he didn’t do much wrong at Chelsea.
It’s great that Forest have now rewarded Cooper for his hard work.
He worked miracles on Trentside last season and he deserves the chance to revive the team’s current form.
