Joe Lolley has scored his first goal since leaving Nottingham Forest in the summer.

The former winger struck a beauty of a goal to round off a 3-1 win for Sydney FC over Western United.

Lolley curled home an unstoppable effort, adding to goals from Adam Le Fondre and Robert Mak.

The 30-year-old departed the City Ground during the summer after almost four years on Trentside.

He helped the Reds win promotion to the Premier League last season but was then deemed surplus to requirements.

In all seriousness, Lolley’s form had dropped off a cliff somewhat.

He managed just one assist in 30 outings during 2021/22 and failed to find the net at all for Forest.

His season was hampered by injuries to a certain extent but now he’s got the chance for a fresh start,

Forest made Lolley available for transfer very early in the summer.

He did have offers from the Championship but chose to try and rediscover himself in Australia instead.

Sydney were beaten 3-2 in their season curtain-raiser last week but they roared back with a win today.

Lolley was clearly delighted to get off the mark and he will hope to take the A-League by storm.

This will do the player’s confidence the world of good.

Lolley has always been a player that needs regular game time and he looks like getting plenty in Australia.

The player looks like a new man and he’s clearly getting stuck into the new challenge of playing in a different country.

Lolley was a fantastic player at his best for Forest.

He scored 26 goals and claimed 27 assists in 171 appearances for the club and was a firm fan favourite.

Lolley struggled with the demands of the Championship last season as injury robbed him of more game time.

Now, he looks bang in form and his goal this morning was poetry in motion.
