Former Nottingham Forest man Joao Carvalho enjoyed a night to remember as Estoril defeated Amora 3-2.

The Portuguese outfit landed Carvalho in the summer and the youngster has been getting up to speed.

After a pretty ordinary spell at Olympiacos, the attacker is trying to rediscover himself in his home country.

Carvalho was awarded the Player of the Match for his efforts and also netted his first goal for his new club.

The 25-year-old has been in relatively good form for Estoril but before Friday he’d failed to find the net.

Now, he’s off the mark and he will be hoping for a good run in front of goal.

Carvalho spent three years at the City Ground before being sold in the summer of 2021.

During his time on Trentside, he registered 17 goal contributions from 75 appearances but often divided opinion.

The former Portugal under-21 player struggled to live up to his price tag at the City Ground.

He cost the club a club record fee of £13 million at the time and he struggled for game time under several managers.

The midfielder was a joy to behold in full flight.

Despite some people believing he only had one good game, he was effective in several outings in the Garibaldi.

The Reds simply couldn’t give him the game time he craved and in the eyes of many, he will be viewed as a flop.

Carvalho was fantastic at his best but not getting played did seem to knock his confidence.

Estoril have given Carvalho the platform to really kick on and he’s enjoying his football right now.

The 25-year-old is on loan in Portugal from Olympiacos and who knows what the future holds.

Some Forest fans will forever hold Carvalho in high esteem.

As a result, they will be delighted that he scored on Friday and they’ll hope that he can really start producing the goods now.
