Nottingham Forest striker Will Swan has told the Mansfield Chad that scoring with his head for Mansfield Town yesterday felt unusual.

The Reds gem netted late on to give the Stags a vital three points at home against Walsall.

Swan has been slowly getting up to speed and now he’s clearly benefitting from playing regular men’s football.

The 21-year-old has played for the Forest first team before and this loan is the natural step in his development.

Swan has now scored four goals for the Stags this season and under Nigel Clough’s wing, he’s starting to shine.

The youngster may well have a future at the City Ground but for now, he’s trying to fire Mansfield to promotion.

After his rare headed goal, he spoke to the Mansfield Chad and he said it felt unusual.

Swan claimed: “It just sat up nicely for me to just squeeze in the middle and head it home.

“I don’t score many headers so it’s an unusual feeling for me to head one it.”

Swan has another year to run on his contract next summer and Forest will have a decision to make.

For now, all he will be thinking about is getting on the pitch for the Stags and continuing to score goals.

Swan says scoring for Mansfield was an unusual feeling

The youngster scored plenty of goals for the under-23s at Forest last season.

He was a big part of Andy Reid’s team that reached the play-offs in their first season playing in the Premier League 2.

A loan was always going to be on the cards this season.

He has joined the perfect club in Mansfield and Clough could be the ideal manager.

The former Forest striker has a track record of working well with younger players and Swan could start to really kick on.

Scoring a header isn’t really his bread and butter but they all count as Mansfield strive to reach League One.
