Luton Town boss Nathan Jones has hinted that the Hatters have an option to sign Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on a permanent basis.

The American is playing exceptionally well for Luton after leaving the Reds on loan during the summer.

He’s helped the team into a lofty position in the Championship and they will chase promotion during the current campaign.

Luton were unlucky last season not to make the play-off final, losing narrowly to Huddersfield in the semi-final.

They quickly targeted Horvath following Forest’s promotion to the Premier League and managed to get a deal over the line.

Now, Jones has seemingly suggested that something can be done should Luton want to sign him in the summer.

He told Luton Today: “We don’t take loans, but we felt that when there’s an opportunity to really improve, then we take the gamble and we always try to get an option.

“There are things in place that if we would like to make it permanent then I’m sure we can.”

Horvath was desperate to move to Luton in search of regular football ahead of the World Cup this winter.

He’s played all 14 of Luton’s matches so far and has helped the team keep five clean sheets during that time.

Jones has hinted that Horvath could sign on permanent basis

This is perhaps a bit of a strange one by Forest.

Dean Henderson is only on loan at the Reds, with Wayne Hennessey now 36-years-old and viewed very much as a backup option.

With Forest staring relegation full in the face, that could leave them without a goalkeeper for next season.

Horvath is a safe pair of hands and he kept four clean sheets in 11 appearances for the Reds last season.

Forest fans are extremely aware that Jones is known for stirring the pot.

With that in mind, it might be a ploy by him to let Forest know that he’s keen to sign Horvath on a permanent basis.

The American is only 27 and he could be propelled into the number-one spot at Forest next season.

That could leave him with a big decision to make if Luton do want him.
