Nottingham Forest-linked defender Connor Goldson has picked up an injury that will keep him out of the Rangers team for several months.

The 29-year-old suffered a thigh problem in the first half of last week’s 7-1 defeat by Liverpool in the Champions League.

Now, the influential player will be out of action for some time and that’s a blow for the Scottish Premiership giants.

Goldson was seemingly all set to sign for Forest shortly after the team won promotion to the Premier League.

The experienced enforcer was available for free and had other clubs in the Premier League monitoring his situation.

A stunning development took place, however, when he chose to pen a four-year contract to stay at Rangers.

That left Forest needing to turn to other targets as they looked to play Premier League football for the first time in 23 years.

Goldson has experience of playing in England for Brighton where he made 42 appearances.

Forest did manage to get themselves a few defenders through the door during the summer transfer window.

Willy Boly and Loic Bade joined Moussa Niakhate in arriving at the club but all three are struggling for game time.

Goldson has made 240 appearances for Rangers having been at Ibrox since 2018 when Steven Gerrard took charge.

Goldson has picked up a serious injury

Much like Niakhate did earlier in the season, Goldson has now picked up an injury.

His manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that he will be out of action for several months and that’s not good news.

Rangers are two points behind Celtic after 10 games and they’re desperate to wrestle their title back.

Goldson has been influential over the years for Rangers and he will be a big miss to the team.

Right now there is no other timescale other than ‘several months‘ and that still represents a huge blow.

It’s unlikely that Goldson will be holding any regrets over not joining Forest.

The Reds are bottom of the Premier League with just five points from their opening 10 matches during 2022/23.
