Spanish journalist Pedro Morata has confirmed to Directo Gol that Marcelino turned down an approach from Nottingham Forest.
The Reds sounded out several managers a few weeks back, with the club’s hierarchy weighing up their options.
In the end, they decided to throw their weight behind Steve Cooper and handed him a new three-year contract.
That decision hasn’t helped Forest improve on the pitch just yet and they are without a win in eight games.
Forest weren’t the only club that Marcelino rejected, with Brighton also trying to make him Graham Potter’s successor.
The 57-year-old left Athletic Bilbao in May after 15 months in charge of the Basque-based club.
He’s got bags of experience managing in Spain having spent time with Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia plus a host of others.
Marcelino won 28 of his 75 games in charge of Bilbao, leaving with a win percentage of just 37%.
Morata has confirmed that the Spaniard is busy weighing up his options but did reject advances from England.
He told Directo Gol: “As far as I have absolutely confirmed Marcelino has turned down the possibility of coaching Brighton and Nottingham Forest.
“Jorge Mendes phoned his people for Wolverhampton. All three clubs were told no by Marcelino.
“I think he’s waiting in case Luis Enrique does not continue in the Spanish national team. He wants to be the coach of Spain.”

This would have been a similar appointment to that of Rafa Benitez, who Forest were also linked with.
Forest should be as far away from these types of links as they can possibly be.
Marcelino isn’t the answer to Forest’s current plight and it’s a relief that the club have stuck with Cooper.
The Spaniard has enjoyed some success in the Copa del Rey during his career but it’d be far too risky to consider appointing him.
Marcelino has rejected Forest, Brighton and Wolves which clearly suggests he’s not that keen on the Premier League.
Managing Spain looks like his dream and perhaps that’s the best thing for him to pursue next.
