Steve Cooper should send SOS to forgotten Nottingham Forest man as injuries pile up

Nottingham Forest man Jack Colback has missed the majority of this season through injury but Steve Cooper could now need him.

The utility man was outstanding during the promotion-winning campaign of 2021/22.

Colback played the majority of his football as a left-sided wing-back following two injuries to Max Lowe.

The 32-year-old made 46 appearances in all competitions last season, with 23 of those coming on the left.

He never disappointed when being asked to fulfil a responsibility and was one of the team’s unsung heroes.

Colback scored four times last season, with his last coming in the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.

This season, a return to Premier League football hasn’t quite gone as he’d have hoped.

The experienced performer started the opening-day defeat at Newcastle but has played just 35 minutes as a substitute since.

He came on in games against Manchester City and Bournemouth, with both games ending in defeat.

Colback has not featured in a squad otherwise, with Cooper confirming last week that he’s been nursing a back injury.

Now, the head coach might have to send Colback an SOS!

Despite signing three left-sided wing-backs in the summer, Forest could remarkably find themselves without one of those available against Liverpool.

Harry Toffolo came on as a substitute against Brighton but didn’t last long before picking up a knock of his own.

Atletico Madrid loanee Renan Lodi has been missing for the past few weeks too after picking up a whack to his ankle.

The experienced performer has been around the block and he could be a useful player for the Reds this season.

Last season he did a brilliant job in FA Cup games against Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool.

As a result, he could be the ideal player to recall to the team, with the left-back situation currently looking bleak.

Cooper didn’t mention Colback in his press briefing earlier today but he did claim that Toffolo would be missing on Saturday.

That could mean that all roads now lead to Colback and he could get the chance to shine if he can shake off his back problem.

Last season, he did brilliantly against Premier League opposition and he’d be a safe pair of hands at left-back.

Cooper will be hoping for some positive news regarding his trusted player in the near future.
