A remarkable statistic has emerged regarding Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi on the back of a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
The former Anfield player was on hand to tap home his own rebound in the 55th minute; injecting life into Forest’s flailing Premier League campaign.
Awoniyi signed for Forest during the summer transfer window. He cost £17 million and has been desperately trying to force his way into the team.
The 25-year-old has been forced to wait patiently during some games but on Saturday he was handed the chance to start.
Steve Cooper believed he would be capable of causing Virgil van Dijk problems and he didn’t disappoint in that sense.
Now, by scoring against Liverpool, Awoniyi has done something that no other Forest player has managed in the Premier League era.
Shortly after the amazing win, Opta Joe claimed that the Nigerian was the first Forest player to score in each of his first Premier League starts at the City Ground.
They also called him a ‘finisher’ and he’s certainly proving his worth when called upon on home soil.
Awoniyi would have hoped to have played more frequently. He was a regular for Union Berlin last term and scored 18 goals in the Bundesliga.

Plenty of supporters have been reminiscing about Keinan Davis.
He was fantastic for the Reds but the club opted to pay the money for Awoniyi rather than £15 million for the former loanee.
Davis was very useful and his strength would have been a huge boost to the squad.
Both he and Awoniyi and different players though and it’s time the club’s fan base put some respect on Awoniyi’s name.
He works hard, gives 100% every time he’s called upon and crucially, he’s sticking the ball in the back of the net when called upon.
Okay, he’s missed a few chances, but who hasn’t as they try to settle into life in the Premier League?
Cooper praised Awoniyi after his efforts against Liverpool and hopefully, we can expect to see the striker start games more frequently now.
