Nottingham Forest vice-captain Ryan Yates has told the Daily Mail that Dean Henderson deserves to go to the World Cup with England.

The on-loan Manchester United man saved Forest on Saturday as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground.

His stunning save from Virgil van Dijk was truly remarkable and gave Forest a huge three points.

Henderson raised some eyebrows in the summer when he turned down more established Premier League clubs to join Forest.

The Reds lost Brice Samba to Lens shortly after winning promotion and were forced to move quickly for a new goalkeeper.

Steve Cooper identified Henderson very early in the transfer window and managed to get a deal over the line.

The 25-year-old’s early season form earned him a recall into Gareth Southgate’s squad, with Jordan Pickford injured.

Now, teammate Yates has thrown weight behind the goalkeeper making the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

He told the Daily Mail: “He was incredible. It’s top drawer and he knows that.

“I think he deserves it (England call-up). Clean sheets will help us stay in this league.”

Henderson has started every game in the Premier League and Saturday saw him keep a third clean sheet.

The Reds stopper is certainly in good enough form.

A decision is out of his hands though and it could take an injury for him to get in the squad.

Pickford, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale are all playing well and they’re likely to be viewed as the current goalkeepers.

Henderson’s time will come, however.

At 25 he’s very young for a goalkeeper and all he can do is keep progressing at Forest.

If the club can remain in the top flight, Cooper must get straight onto the phone to Erik ten Hag and bring him to Forest permanently.
