Ed Sheeran has told Peter Crouch on his latest podcast that he was delighted for Nottingham Forest last season.

The world-renowned singer and songwriter was a guest on the latest episode with the former England international.

Forest stunned the Championship during 2021/22, winning promotion having sat bottom of the division in September.

When Steve Cooper was appointed the Reds never looked back and roared up the table to claim a play-off place.

After beating Sheffield United over two legs, the Reds went on to Wembley where they edged a close encounter against Huddersfield.

Now, the challenge for Forest is to try and establish themselves as a Premier League club once again.

They have made a pretty poor start, although Saturday’win over Liverpool at the City Ground has offered hope.

Sheeran is involved in football himself and supporters Ipswich Town and sponsors the club’s shirt.

It would appear he might have a soft spot for Forest too and mentioned the club on this week’s episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast.

He said: “I love that Nottingham Forest went up. That was one that made me really chuffed.”

The Castle on the Hill singer has a reputation for being one of the best in the business when it comes to songwriting.

Clearly, he likes his football too and it’s nice to hear outsiders discussing Forest with the club now back in the Premier League.

Forest will hope to remain a top-flight club for the foreseeable and they do have work to do this season.

The Reds under Cooper can’t be written off though and an exciting second half of the campaign could be on the horizon.

Sheeran will embark on another sold-out tour early in 2023.

As for Forest, they will hope to keep their place at football’s top table beyond next season.
