Glenn Murray has criticised Jesse Lingard after the Nottingham Forest playmaker endued a difficult afternoon against Arsenal.

Forest headed to North London with renewed hope after a 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Gabriel Martinelli’s goal meant Forest went into half time trailing 1-0 but Steve Cooper’s men had battled well.

It all fell apart after the break though as Nelson added number two before the floodgates opened.

Reiss Nelson added a brace with Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard sealing a 5-0 rout for the Gunners.

Glenn Murray has criticised Jesse Lingard

This was another disappointing day for Forest, who just couldn’t keep up with Arsenal in the second half.

Cooper must hope that the recent uptick in form isn’t completely obliterated by this result.

Forest are still looking for more from some summer signings though with Jesse Lingard near the top of that list.

Lingard was seen as an enormous coup when he joined Forest on a free transfer from Manchester United over the summer.

Based on his form at West Ham United, many felt that Lingard could add some star power to Forest’s attacking play.

Yet Lingard has now played 11 times in the Premier League for Forest and has yet to register a goal or an assist.

Lingard was quiet on Sunday; no key passes, no shots on target, one tackle, five accurate passes and one clearance.

That’s just not good enough for a player of Lingard’s standing, though he did have a shot blocked in the first half after a mistake from Arsenal defender Gabriel.

Former Forest striker and current BBC pundit Glenn Murray has now stated (14:40) that Lingard was ‘wasteful’ on the ball.

Murray added that Forest need much more from Lingard in terms of creativity and you would be hard-pressed to find fans who don’t agree with that.

“So far, Jesse Lingard has been quite wasteful in possession. Nottingham Forest need more from him, especially going forward. A little bit more creativity,” said Murray.
