Three Nottingham Forest players are on the brink of being suspended ahead of the World Cup break.

Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall and Steve Cook have all been cautioned four times during the 2022/23 campaign.

It’s perhaps no surprise that three of Forest’s central defenders have been cautioned this season.

Forest have been found wanting for a bit of pace and a lack of that attribute has resulted in some rash challenges.

The Reds face Brentford and Crystal Palace before the World Cup and points are needed.

Forest have taken four points from their last three games against Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal.

That isn’t a bad return but ultimately the 5-0 defeat at Arsenal might prove damaging ahead of two big games.

Now, three stars are on a tightrope as Forest prepare to face Brentford at the City Ground.

McKenna has been a mainstay in the team this season, playing in every game in the Premier League.

Cook has been called upon several times too and the pair are very comfortable playing alongside each other.

Worrall has lost his place in the team over the last couple of months.

The club captain has surprisingly fallen down the pecking order under Steve Cooper and now some big calls will need to be made.

This is a concern but ultimately, it’s why Forest ensured their squad was so well stocked in the summer.

Forest have the likes of Willy Boly, Loic Bade and Giulian Biancone waiting in the wings who have barely played.

McKenna is perhaps the biggest worry out of the three players on the brink.

With Moussa Niakhate injured, the Scotland star is the only left-footed option that Forest have at the back.

As a result, they will have to decide whether to stick with the 25-year-old or save him for next Saturday.

Either way, the three players bring a certain degree of experience and the hope will be that they can all escape the referee’s attention.
