Former Nottingham Forest star Chris Cohen could be in line for a shot at the Premier League alongside Nathan Jones.

The Luton Town manager has been granted permission to speak with Southampton about their managerial vacancy.

The Saints are embroiled in a relegation battle with Forest and sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl earlier today.

Now, Jones will travel to the South Coast to discuss the vacancy with Southampton.

The respected boss has worked wonders with Luton and last season he led them to the Championship play-offs.

His team were beaten on aggregate by Huddersfield and they will look to finally break into the Premier League this season.

The Hatters are eighth in the table and losing Jones could be seriously detrimental to their aspirations.

Cohen left Forest in 2020 to link up with Jones he played alongside at Yeovil earlier in his playing career.

He took on the role of Jones’ assistant manager and together they’ve become quite the team.

Cohen’s stock as a coach is incredibly high and he looks set for a bright future in coaching.

The assistant manager still has a soft spot for the Reds and was spotted among the Forest fans at Arsenal recently.

Cohen will surely be eyed by Jones as the man to head to Southampton with him.

The pair clearly work well together and naturally, it seems Jones will want to take some familiar faces with him to St Mary’s Stadium.

Cohen could be in line for Premier League move

Given that he’s only 35, Cohen has to be regarded as a bright young coach.

So too is Jones and this would be quite the move should he get the chance to replace Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

Cohen is well-respected at the City Ground.

He made 303 appearances in the Garibaldi, serving the club with distinction and captaining the team towards the end of his time at the club.

Cohen gave his all in every game he played.

He operated in a number of positions and in the modern era he has to be viewed as one of the club’s greatest servants.

If he gets the Premier League shot he deserves, Forest fans will monitor his progress with intrigue.
