A report by the Daily Mail has claimed that Michael Keane rejected the chance to join Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The Reds were keen to bolster their defensive ranks prior to the season beginning and wanted the Everton man.
The 12-time England international also rejected West Ham and clearly, he fancied playing a part under Frank Lampard.
Keane, 29, has made just one appearance in the Premier League this season and craves regular football.
Now, the player has leaned on his father being Irish to gain an EU passport.
That will open the door for him to seek a move overseas once the transfer window opens in January.
Forest have to try and add to their ranks during the window.
The club sit bottom of the Premier League and it appears likely that the club’s hierarchy will back Steve Cooper again.
It doesn’t seem as though Keane will remain on the radar, however.
He clearly wants a bigger move during the January transfer window and will now look for a move abroad.
Keane looks almost certain to leave Goodison Park.
The experienced central defender has made 188 appearances for the Toffees but is now down the pecking order.

Signing the former Manchester United youngster would hardly have excited the fan base.
Forest need to sign a central defender with a bit of pace and Keane doesn’t really fit that bill either.
At 29, the player wouldn’t be a signing with one eye on the future and there’s an argument that he’s no better than what is already in place.
Furthermore, Keane has already rejected the club once.
With the Reds facing a fight against relegation, it’s vital that only players are signed that truly want to be at the club.
Keane does have Premier League experience but on £69,000-a-week, the Reds would be wise to move on.
