‘No use’: Nottingham Forest-supporting pundit claims 31-year-old wasn’t Cooper’s signing

BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher thinks that Steve Cooper doesn’t fancy Nottingham Forest man Willy Boly.

The Reds signed the defender from Wolves during the transfer window but he’s played just a single game.

His only appearance to date came during a 3-2 defeat to Fulham where he lasted for just over an hour.

In fairness, he didn’t play badly but since then, Cooper has preferred Scott McKenna and Steve Cook.

Now, Fletcher has seemed to side with those who presume that the head coach isn’t necessarily on board with some signings.

It wouldn’t be a day of supporting Forest without someone saying something that goes against what the hierarchy are trying to do.

Fletcher is adamant that Boly wasn’t chosen by Cooper and believes the proof is in the pudding.

He told the Garibaldi Red Podcast: “Boly had a game, he’s not been seen really since.

“It kind of tells you, I think subliminally, what a manager thinks about his arrival.

“It’s just not on anybody’s radar, so why play him against Tottenham? They’re absolutely no use to you.”

Boly, 31, spent four years at Molineux, helping them win promotion and then stabilise as a Premier League club.

Fletcher doesn’t think Cooper fancies Boly

The BT Sport commentator does have a little point with this claim, although there are still some flaws.

Boly would have played more if Cooper really fancied him but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t rate him at all.

Cooper had to find a way to stop Forest from conceding goals for fun.

He clearly felt that McKenna and Cook were trusted members of the promotion-winning team and in recent weeks they have become harder to beat.

Furthermore, this is modern-day football.

Gone are the days when a manager has the sole responsibility of choosing who comes into the club.

Some cynics have made accusations that Serge Aurier and Cheikhou Kouyate also weren’t Cooper signings.

They’ve both been brilliant and the conspiracy theorists have quickly gone quiet on that front.

Boly’s time might come and for Fletcher to suggest he’s no use to Forest is pretty harsh after a single game.
