Former Southampton winger Nathan Redmond held talks with Nottingham Forest in the summer, The Athletic reports.

The Reds tried to add the 28-year-old to their ranks following promotion to the Premier League.

He chose not to join Forest, however, and instead made the move to the Turkish-based outfit Besiktas.

Redmond has registered just one assist in eight games for his new club and is striving for consistency.

Before heading overseas he had spent six years with Southampton after joining from Norwich in 2016.

In 232 appearances for the Saints, he scored 30 goals and registered 27 assists for the club.

Redmond actually has a single England cap to his name too but in the last few years, his career has taken a nosedive.

In Turkey, he will hope to rediscover himself alongside Dele Alli and he’s claimed talks were held with Forest in the summer.

The Athletic reports that Bournemouth, Everton and Brighton all tried to persuade him to join their clubs in the summer.

Further overseas interest came from Nice and Olympiacos.

Redmond typically operates out wide and was clearly wanted to bring some Premier League experience to the ranks.

Ralph Hasenhuttl was a big fan of the player and called him ‘special’ back in 2019.

It’s clear that Forest wanted to add a mixture of players in the summer with different qualities.

The Reds added some high-profile players, some with Premier League experience and others who will be stars of the future.

Interestingly two of the better signings would have been from the file that Redmond would have slotted into.

Both Serge Aurier and Cheikhou Kouyate were deemed strange additions by some fans when they checked in.

Ultimately, their experience have been critical though and both have starred when called upon.

Redmond might have proved a useful signing for the Reds but perhaps he felt a completely fresh start was needed.

Given that he’s not taken Turkey by storm, perhaps Forest won’t live to rue this one too much.
