The left-footed player enjoyed a season to remember in his homeland during the 2022 campaign.

He showcased himself as an assist machine, laying on 17 goals as Palmeiras romped to the league title.

Scarpa also scored 13 goals and he will head to Forest in confident form ahead of the January transfer window.

Now, he’s been saying a fond farewell to the club’s supporters and Ferreira thinks he’s made the right choice.

He told ESPN: “I remember in the middle of the year he called me and he said ‘I want to go there.’ I said ‘Where to? No, you won’t go there, I won’t let you go and you shouldn’t go.’

“I said that if there was a proposal from a club or a championship with more ambition, I would let him go.

“And he ended up making the best decision. I already said ‘prepare yourself because you will defend more than here and you will touch the ball much less than here’.”

Ferreira thinks Scarpa has chosen wisely

It’s likely that Ferreira is alluding to the situation where the Brazilian nearly headed straight to Olympiacos.

If the Greek champions were still in the Champions League, it seems likely that he will have headed to Greece instead.

Now, Forest will benefit though and Scarpa will be part of Steve Cooper’s squad from January.

It will be mightily interesting to see how the player gets on at Forest and there will be a settling-in period.

Having a left-footed option in the attacking ranks could be ideal and the Reds might hit the jackpot with Scarpa.
