Sky Sports pundit wowed by two Nottingham Forest stars who gave Tottenham nightmares

Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff said last night that two Nottingham Forest players gave Tottenham nightmares. The Reds ran out 2-0 winners over Antonio Conte’s team in the Carabao Cup.

Forest scored through Renan Lodi and Jesse Lingard. Both players bagged their first goals for the club and the joy was there for all to see in their celebrations.

The Reds made nine changes for the contest, with Tottenham making just three. Conte clearly valued this competition and he won’t have been happy with his team at the City Ground.

Forest should have gone in at the interval leading. Lingard saw a header well saved by Fraser Forster minutes into the game and the Reds didn’t seem fazed by their stellar opposition.

McAnuff had praise for two other players during the first half. He was covering the game for Sky Sports News on their Soccer Special.

He said live on air: “(Sam) Surridge and (Taiwo) Awoniyi are pulling wide here and Spurs are struggling to deal with it.

“Typically those two are centre forwards but they’re working the channels extremely well at the minute.”

Both strikers were utilised on the pitch at the same time. It was a bold call by Steve Cooper but ultimately it was a decision that paid off.

Forest were a constant threat going forward. Awoniyi chased every ball down, with Surridge causing havoc when the Reds managed to get balls into dangerous areas.

The Reds will be given a confidence boost by this victory. For Surridge and Awoniyi, they will both feel that they’ve done enough to start at the weekend.

Forest take on Crystal Palace in an important game as they bid to stay in the Premier League.

Now, Cooper has a serious headache. His changes paid dividends last night and ultimately they were a much bigger threat going forward.

McAnuff saw a lot of Forest last season covering the Reds in the Championship. Last night he was very complimentary about the team once more, with Surridge and Awoniyi in his sights for praise.
