Nottingham Forest star Orel Mangala has not been named in the Belgium squad to travel to the World Cup.
Roberto Martinez has named his final 26-man squad today and the 24-year-old has been omitted from the long list.
Mangala has endured a pretty frustrating campaign since signing for the Reds during the summer.
The midfielder was in action last night as the Reds knocked Tottenham out of the Carabao Cup at the City Ground.
Mangala was sent off for a second bookable offence and will now miss Saturday’s final game before the World Cup against Crystal Palace.
After the game last night, Cooper was full of praise for the player. He told BBC Radio Nottingham that he felt the midfielder had run the show.
In fairness though, regular action has been all too infrequent for the talented ex-Stuttgart man.
He picked up an injury in his third outing for the club and that put him out of action for several games.
Since returning he’s largely been forced into playing a peripheral role and he will hope that changes after the World Cup.
Mangala dictated play perfectly against Tottenham last night and fans got a glimpse of what the £12 million man is capable of.
Mangala not named in World Cup squad
This will be a big blow for the midfielder, although it could benefit Forest.
It means that the Reds can hand the player a little rest and then hopefully ensure he is fully fit for the return of football around Christmas.
Mangala is going to be vitally important for Forest going forward.
He can pass the ball, dictates the pace of play and isn’t afraid to get stuck into tackles either.
The youngster has a lot to offer and after last night’s performance it’s a shame he can’t play on Saturday.
Forest know that they could do with beating Crystal Palace to give their Premier League campaign a real boost.
Sadly, they will head into battle without Mangala.
