Brian Laws praised Renan Lodi on BBC Radio Nottingham last night as Nottingham Forest defeated Tottenham 2-0 at the City Ground.

The Brazilian scored his first goal for the Reds with a blistering effort that fizzed beyond Fraser Forster in the Tottenham goal.

Seven minutes later Jesse Lingard got in on the act. He headed home from Sam Surridge’s headed pass to notch his first Reds goal.

The win should give Forest some confidence heading into Saturday. Forest play Crystal Palace in their final game before the World Cup and they could do with a win.

Lodi was on the bench as Forest drew with Brentford on Saturday. When called upon last night, he was clearly keen to make his mark and impress Steve Cooper.

He did that with a stunning effort that whistled into the net. His celebration oozed relief and he will hope to kick on at the City Ground now.

Laws was impressed with Lodi. He had some comments on the performer following his maiden goal for Forest.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “It was a right-footed curler from 20 yards out.

“He offered a little piece of Brazilian magic on a November night on Trentside.

The 24-year-old has come in for some criticism. He’s typically been on the pitch during Forest’s heaviest defeats but ultimately that is a little bit coincidental.

Lodi helped Atletico Madrid win a league title. As a result, he’s hardly a bad player and Diego Simeone didn’t actually want him to leave.

The left-back has missed out on a World Cup berth with Brazil. He used that motivation to do something useful last night and Lodi was absolutely brilliant.

Lodi enjoyed his best night in a Forest shirt against Tottenham. Now, he will hope to bottle this and produce this performance level on a consistent basis.
