Steve Cooper has told Nottinghamshire Live that he will be checking on two Nottingham Forest stars ahead of the weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

Both Scott McKenna and Cheikhou Kouyate were left out of last night’s game against Tottenham.

Cooper has said they’re only niggling problems but believes both will need to be checked on before Saturday’s game.

Forest already have a number of injuries to contend with. Moussa Niakhate, Harry Toffolo, Omar Richards and Giulian Biancone are all currently sidelined.

Now, it would appear that Cooper has two more issues to deal with before coming up against the Eagles this weekend.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “A couple of boys missed out yesterday through knocks – Scott McKenna and Cheikhou.

“We will see how they are going into the weekend.”

McKenna has been virtually ever-present since the start of the 2021/22 campaign; missing just a single league fixture.

That came in the final day draw against Hull City when Forest’s play-off place was already secured.

Kouyate has been a regular in the team in recent weeks and he’s looked useful more often than not.

Both players will hope to be a part of Cooper’s team this weekend, with the Reds in desperate need of a victory.

Two fresh injury concerns serve to highlight that Forest are in desperate need of the World Cup break.

Although 22 new players were signed in the summer, it’s been tough going when it comes to niggling injury problems.

McKenna is the only left-footed central defender at Forest’s disposal and he would be a really big miss.

Kouyate has been the team’s battering ram in midfield and he will want to face the club that released him in the summer.

If they do miss out then one of last night’s heroes of the hour from the Tottenham clash could come in.

That game did offer a reminder to Cooper that he has some quality in reserve and it will be intriguing to see how the head coach plays things.
