Nottingham Forest will have five players heading to their World Cup in Qatar later this month.

Brennan Johnson, Neco Williams and Wayne Hennessey will all hope to help Wales top England in Group B.

Cheikhou Kouyate will go with Senegal who face Holland, Qatar and Ecuador in Group A.

Finally, Remo Freuler will be hoping to help Switzerland progress from Group G which also included Cameroon, Brazil and Serbia.

Alongside the quintet that will be on respective planes with their country, there will be a host of ex-Reds at the tournament.

As a result, we’ve taken a look at six former Forest players who will be at the World Cup this winter.

Six former Forest players who will be at the World Cup:

This is a bit of a loose link from a Forest perspective given that he only actually played four times for Forest.

Billy Davies plucked him from Arsenal when short-term loans were still a trendy thing for clubs to do.

Some bad weather limited the number of games he managed to play during his spell at the City Ground.

Still, his quality was there for all to see and he did play during a 5-2 thrashing of Derby County.

Jason Cummings (Australia)

This isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke and the enigmatic striker will be turning out for Australia at the World Cup.

He will try and help the team as they face Denmark, Tunisia and holders France in Group D.

Cummings pledged his allegiance to Australia recently and he’s impressed manager Graham Arnold sufficiently.

The 27-year-old has already netted his first goal for the Socceroos and is currently plying his trade with Central Coast Mariners.

Matty Cash (Poland)

A man who needs no introduction to the Forest fan base is Cash.

He chose to play for Poland last year and quite frankly, he hasn’t looked back.

Cash should head to the competition as the number one option at right-back and he could really excel.

The Aston Villa star hasn’t looked back since a £16 million move from Forest and he remains a popular figure on Trentside.

Jonny Williams (Wales)

A fortnight ago, the midfielder scored twice for Swindon in a 5-2 win over Mansfield Town in League Two.

Next week, he will embark on a World Cup journey with Wales at the age of 29 and he thoroughly deserves it.

Williams has spent his career battling against several niggling injuries and he’s a very likeable player.

The former Reds loanee is likely in the squad for his versatility and he could have a big part to play in Rob Page’s team.

Karim Ansarifard (Iran)

The 32-year-old has a steady goalscoring record with his country, scoring 29 times from 93 appearances.

These days the striker is playing his club football in Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia where he’s scored twice in 14 games this season.

Ansarifard struggled for game time at the City Ground and never really failed to hold down a regular place.

He’s a well-travelled player and he will hope to help Iran cause some shocks at the World Cup.

Chris Gunter (Wales)

No player has turned out more for the Wales national team than former Reds star Gunter.

He has made 109 appearances for his country and has served Wales with absolute distinction.

Gunter was a big part of the squad that reached the semi-final of Euro 2016 and Wales might surprise a few again here.

The Forest faithful enjoyed Gunter during his time at the City Ground and he’s currently playing for AFC Wimbledon.
