Nottingham Forest won 1-0 against Crystal Palace and Cheikhou Kouyate showed the Eagles exactly what they’re missing.

The brute of a midfielder will now head off to the World Cup where he will try and help Senegal progress.

He arrived at the City Ground in the summer on a free transfer after leaving Palace at the end of his contract.

Kouyate was a constant thorn in the side of Palace; standing firm to prevent the Eagles from doing any real damage.

The 32-year-old has been a really important part of Steve Cooper’s team.

He’s called on him more often than not and at home, he’s been a really big part of how Forest play.

Kouyate covers every blade of grass when he’s called upon and his work rate is unbelievable at times.

Yesterday he left Palace fans feeling pig sick as he roared into tackles and moved the ball around the City Ground turf.

Who Scored show that Kouyate won four tackles during his 70-minute spell on the pitch and was fouled twice.

It was perhaps the player’s work rate out of possession that caught the eye the most among the fan base.

James Garner won a lot of plaudits last season for such a trait and Kouyate was akin to the youngster yesterday.

Forest star Kouyate showed Palace what they’re missing

The midfield enforcer was a really good player at Selhurst Park. As a result, it’s perhaps a surprise they didn’t keep him.

The Eagles have been prioritising youth of late. With that in mind, perhaps that is what prompted them to release the star.

Palace’s loss is Forest’s gain, however.

Kouyate is bang in form and right now, he’s striking up a real rapport with Ryan Yates and Remo Freuler.

The man with 82 caps will now focus on the World Cup where he will hope to enjoy a strong tournament.

Forest fans will be hoping he can stay fit and return; ready to help the Reds continue climbing the league table.
