Nottingham Forest-owned player Richie Laryea will be heading to the World Cup with Canada. The defender has taken to Instagram to speak of a dream come true and several players past and present have responded.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan with Toronto FC. With their season now finished, however, the player might seek another temporary stint away from Forest when the transfer window opens.

Laryea signed for Forest during the January 2021 transfer window. He came into the club to provide competition for the place of Djed Spence who was in possession of the shirt all season.

Given that the player playing ahead of him was bang in form, he found game time very hard to come by. He started just once for the Reds last season and that came on the final day of the season at Hull.

Laryea is a bit of a speed merchant. He loves to maraude forward and helping out with attacks is the order of the day as far as the Canada international is concerned when he’s called upon.

Steve Cooper has spoken fondly about the player. Now, he will be delighted to discover that the defender is heading off to the World Cup in the next couple of weeks as Canada bid for success.

Laryea heading to the World Cup

The player has already made 33 appearances for his country. As a result, it would have been a major shock to see him not make the squad for the World Cup which gets underway a week today.

Alex Mighten has sent Laryea a message of congratulations on Instagram. He posted, “What a guy” after the player had claimed that he never stopped dreaming.

It will be interesting to see how Canada perform at the World Cup. They will be in Group F alongside Belgium. Croatia and Morocco.

Laryea will now hope to force his way into the team. He won’t want to head to the competition as a baggage handler and he will hope to make an impact on the pitch.
