Nottingham Forest Under-21 boss Dave Rogers has heaped praise on Ateef Konate during an interview on page 13 of the Forest Review matchday programme.

The Reds youngster was crowned Premier League 2 Player of the Month for October following a fine run of form.

Forest were in great shape during the month and Konate bagged five goals from as many appearances in the team.

Konate was on the bench for the senior ranks last season and made a substitute appearance against Barnsley.

The 21-year-old has been operating more often than not through the middle this season and he’s reaping the rewards.

Konate was brought to the club from Le Havre as a winger and it appears that Rogers fancies him as more of a striker or number 10.

The head coach has been impressed with the form of Konate and praised him after his recent accolade.

Rogers told the Forest Review matchday programme: “Ateef has been excellent for us this season and we’re all delighted that his form has been recognised.

“He’s scored some fantastic goals for us but he brings much more to the team than just finding the back of the net.

“We now hope he can continue to progress as he’s a thoroughly talented individual.”

Rogers heaped praise on Konate and now he must kick on

Had Forest not won promotion to the Premier League last season, it’s a fair argument that Konate would have stepped up to the senior ranks.

Cooper trusts younger players and as a Championship club, Konate might have been a useful option to call upon.

For now, however, he must make do with appearances for the under-21 squad and he’s clearly trying to prove himself.

Forest will have ambitions of another strong season during 2022/23, having lost in the play-offs last season.

Konate will be integral to those fortunes and he will hope to impress Cooper sufficiently to force his way through the ranks.
