Incoming Nottingham Forest signing Gustavo Scarpa has claimed the ESPN Brasil Golden Ball as the best player for 2022. The left-footed wizard will now head to Nottingham where he will join the Reds ahead of the January transfer window reopening.

It would seem as though Scarpa is a bit of a character too. He collected his accolade on a skateboard, causing the hosts of the event to double up laughing at his comical way of claiming his award.

Scarpa was in sensational form during 2022 as Palmeiras claimed the league title. He scored 13 goals and claimed 15 assists as his team absolutely destroyed their rivals in the quest to win silverware.

Abel Ferreira’s men lost just twice all season. Scarpa was the main man in the team; operating in a number of positions in the final third, with versatility clearly in his locker.

Forest will welcome the player into their ranks. A left-footed option in the final third has been lacking during the first half of the season and Scarpa could be an ideal addition.

It’s quite something for the player to claim this award. He fought off competition from teammate Gustavo Gomez and Corinthians star Adriana Lima to lift the prestigious prize.

After a tremendous season, the player will already be full of confidence. But not, this award just puts the cherry on top of the cake for Scarpa ahead of January.

He will arrive on Trentside determined to do himself justice in the Premier League; with the player previously calling his move a dream come true.

Collecting an accolade on a skateboard isn’t typical behaviour. However, he probably felt he’d earned the right to go a bit crazy after his season.

Forest aren’t only getting a sound footballer in January but they’re also getting a seemingly good character for the Reds’ dressing room.

The challenge for Scarpa now is to prove himself in the Premier League.
