Nottingham Forest summer signing Brandon Aguilera has told El Mundo that Costa Rica can cause a stir at the World Cup in Qatar. The Costa Rican international will hope to make his mark on the tournament over the next few weeks after being named in the squad.

Aguilera was signed by Forest during a hectic summer transfer window. He checked in from Alajuelense and was immediately loaned out to Guanacasteca for the season.

The 19-year-old is clearly an ambitious performer. He’s been busy performing a number of media duties ahead of the World Cup that starts in Qatar on Sunday evening.

Aguilera and his teammates won’t find things easy in Qatar. They’ve been drawn into Group E alongside Spain, Japan and Germany in one of the toughest groups going.

Still, the youngster believes that Costa Rica can go into it with nothing to lose in a bid to make the knockout stages of the competition.

He told El Mundo: “I feel very excited and eager for it to start, I really want to play and do things well.

“The possibilities exist against the three teams and that is we think and we will take it.

“It’s a difficult group it’s also nice to be playing against the best. The three teams excite me and I want to face them.”

It’s not clear at this stage what role the 19-year-old will play in Qatar. He could be there for the experience but at the same time, he could make an impact on the pitch if he’s called upon.

The Costa Rican outfit have an exceptionally young squad. With that in mind, their head coach Luis Fernando Suarez could field a few young starting elevens at the tournament.

Aguilera has been playing okay with his loan club. He’s made 10 appearances and has been considered a regular in the starting line-up.

It would be great from a Forest perspective if he started for Costa Rica at the World Cup. Supporters will be desperate to see what he’s all about and getting a glimpse on the grandest stage would be just perfect.
