Chris Gunter has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest man Neco Williams ahead of Wales opening their World Cup account.

The former Forest defender has been speaking to the club’s official media team ahead of the competition.

Rob Page’s team face the USA tomorrow as they enter the final stages of a World Cup for the first time since 1958.

The 21-year-old will likely compete with Gunter for a place in the Wales team; although the Forest man has been playing at left-back in qualifying.

Williams swapped Liverpool for the City Ground during the summer, making a £17.5 million move to Trentside.

Gunter thinks that move has served him extremely well and believes that Williams is a really good player.

He told the club’s official website: “It was a great move for Neco to join Forest because he’s a quality player and has been playing regularly.”

Williams has made 16 appearances in total this season playing on both sides of the Forest defence.

The youngster has also been a regular with his country in recent years, making 23 appearances for Wales.

He will be hoping to start tomorrow against the USA and if he does he will be keen to stamp his authority on the game.

Gunter praise for Forest man Williams

No man has made more appearances for the Wales national team than Gunter and he knows what it takes to star.

He’s enjoyed a decent career and his 109 caps haven’t been bettered when it comes to playing for Wales.

Williams is the future though and he will now hope to forge a successful career on the international stage too.

He’s looked rather useful when called upon by Forest, although there is still some room for him to improve.

Williams is a young player and some fans will need to be patent when it comes to expecting him to perform in the Premier League straight away.

For now, his focus will be solely on the World Cup and Forest fans will be rooting for him from afar.
