The Reds’ former central defender has been asked to pick his predicted XI for Wales as they play a World Cup game for the first time in 64 years.
Johnson will be hoping to start the game, having recently become a regular in the team under Rob Page.
Dawson surprisingly left him out, however, choosing to put Gareth Bale and Dan James on the flanks with Keiffer Moore up front.
Clinton Morrison disagreed and put Johnson in his team at the expense of James who he thinks will be benched.
It’s perhaps a little bit surprising that Dawson hasn’t thrown his weight behind the Forest man.
The former academy graduate holds Forest close to his heart and a slightly biased vote might have been forgiven here.
Dawson made the claim on Sky Sports News at 9:28am, saying: “Brennan Johnson could play but I just think he will go with the raw pace of Dan James instead.”
Johnson will be immensely excited for this World Cup and his career over the last two years has been quite remarkable.
In 2020/21 he reached the play-off final in League One with Lincoln and last season he went one better and helped Forest win promotion.
Dawson doesn’t think Johnson will play
This is a bit of a turn-up for the books with Dawson suggesting that Johnson won’t play.
Against a young, vibrant USA outfit, Wales could be wise to deploy pace and Johnson certainly brings that to the team.
Johnson has slowly but surely been getting up to speed in the Premier League this season.
Last time out against Crystal Palace he produced his best performance of the campaign and he will be full of confidence.
Johnson will be gutted not to make it today and Forest fans will be hoping he gets the nod to start the game.
