Wales Online have raved about Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson after his cameo performance last night.

The Reds talisman was introduced with 11 minutes to play and Wales trailing the USA 1-0 in their opening Group B game.

Johnson produced a pretty eye-catching performance and he tried desperately hard to get Wales back into the game.

Interestingly, it was some quick thinking from the 21-year-old that provided Wales with a chance to equalise.

He quickly took a throw in shortly after coming on, finding Aaron Ramsey in some space down the right.

The former Reds loanee then squared it to Gareth Bale who was fouled in the box with a penalty kick awarded.

Bale dusted himself down and sent Wales into pandemonium, smashing his penalty home.

For Johnson, it proved a useful World Cup debut and Wales Online had some kind words for him afterwards.

They said on his display: “Freshened things up on the wing late on in the piece. Had one decent shot saved.”

Johnson cameo performance gives Rob Page food for thought

The Forest man will have been gutted not to have started the clash against the USA last night.

As a result, he will have been delighted to come on the field and make a little impact on the game.

Now, he’s offered Page a glimpse of what he’s capable of and perhaps he will be in contention to start against Iran.

In truth, Wales toiled for a good hour of last night’s game.

They played like a team playing in their first World Cup for 64 years; looking overawed for a lot of the game.

Johnson is slowly but surely adapting to the Premier League and perhaps he will earn a start for Wales in this tournament.

He did far more in the 10 minutes he was on the pitch than Dan James did before him and that bodes well.

Johnson is the future of Welsh football. As a result, perhaps Page should give him a chance from the start on Friday.
