Nottingham Forest were linked with a move to sign defender Jesus Vazquez during the summer but now, Leeds United want the Valencia star.
According to Leeds Live, the youngster is now firmly on the radar of Victor Orta who wants to strengthen the ranks.
Vazquez, 19, has risen through the youth team ranks at the Mestella and has a contract in Spain until 2025.
He hasn’t exactly been a regular under Gennaro Gattuso this season, however, making four appearances.
The Spain under-19 international has largely been deployed on the bench and he’s started just twice during 2022/23.
With that in mind, the club might be willing to let him leave the club when the January transfer window opens.
Valencia aren’t in the best of financial health at the moment and some of their players may be sold in the coming months.
Vazquez has a release clause of £35 million but it does seem ambitious that they will recoup that amount.
Forest were thwarted with a bid of £4 million during the summer, with that thought to be miles away from tempting Valencia into a sale.
Vazquez is extremely quick and is tailor-made for the wing-back role so often deployed by Steve Cooper.
Leeds now want Forest-linked Vazquez
The Reds are probably unlikely to go in search of a new left-back during the January transfer window.
Omar Richards is on his way back to full fitness, whilst Renan Lodi produced a couple of good displays before the World Cup break.
Harry Toffolo is also at the club. He has a hamstring problem and it’s not clear how long he will be missing for.
Still, it seems highly unlikely that a left-back will be on the agenda; with Neco Williams also capable of playing there.
Vazquez is perhaps not a target for Forest at this time and Leeds will face competition.
It’s been claimed by other reports that Inter are keen on signing the talented youngster on loan during January.
Whoever takes a chance on the youngster, it will be intriguing to see how he does develop.
