Nottingham Forest defender Renan Lodi is training with Athletico Paranaense as he bids to stay fit during the World Cup. However, the Reds player isn’t going anywhere and will remain on Trentside.
Lodi was an eye-catching signing during the summer. He was added to the ranks on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid when Omar Richards suffered an injury shortly after arriving.
The 24-year-old had won the La Liga title with Los Rojiblancos. Lodi arrived at Forest with a point to prove having fallen out of favour under Diego Simeone, despite featuring regularly in the past.
It’s fair to say that Lodi has taken some time to get up to speed. A lot of Forest’s bad results have coincided with the Brazilian being on the pitch; although some of that was, of course, coincidental.
Lodi has a lot of time for the club where it all started for him as a professional player. He’s been invited back to the Brazilian top-flight outfit to keep in shape as he prepares to return to training with Forest.
The left-sided wing-back made 50 appearances for Athletico Paranaense before switching to Spain. At the Wanda Metropolitano, he made 118 appearances, scoring six goals and claiming 10 assists.

It’s good to see so many of the Reds stars keeping themselves in check during the break. Jesse Lingard has been spotted training in Dubai, whilst Morgan Gibbs-White has been seen in the gym despite being on holiday in Miami.
Forest will return to action against Blackburn in the Carabao Cup on December 21st. With a place in the quarter-final up for grabs, it seems likely that Steve Cooper might look to play a strong team.
Lodi’s finest Forest display came in the last round of the competition. He scored a superb goal as the Reds defeated Tottenham 2-0 and the strike was nominated for Goal of the Round.
The left-back will be hoping to gain some consistency. But, he’s not been anywhere near as bad as some fans have made out and there is still hope that he can become a very useful player for Forest this season.
