Rangers are set to join Celtic in the race to sign Nottingham Forest-linked striker Antoine Semenyo. According to Football Scotland, both Glasgow giants are now keen with the Ibrox-based club the latest to declare their interest.

Forest were keen to sign the Bristol City star during the January transfer window. Steve Cooper was keen to strengthen his attacking arsenal but were quoted a staggering £15 million for his services.

The 22-year-old will be out of contract during the summer. However, the Robins do hold an option to extend that by a further year and it seems likely that they will ensure they trigger that extension.

Rangers have been watching the striker for some time. They’ve sent scouts to watch him in action during the 2022/23 campaign and are now weighing up whether or not to make a move for him.

Semenyo is unlikely to come cheap to any club that wants to sign him. Bristol City value him as one of their top players and the fact he’s participating in the World Cup with Ghana will likely add to his price tag.

The youngster has scored three times in 16 appearances this season. During 2021/22, he caught the eye of his potential suitors, scoring eight goals and laying on a further 12 in the way of assists.

The Bristol City man is clearly one for the future. As a result, perhaps it’s not completely beyond the realms of reality that he remains on the radar of Forest.

Forest added 22 new players to their ranks during the summer. It doesn’t seem as though they will slow down in January though and they’ve certainly not stopped looking at players for the future.

Semenyo might find a move to either Celtic or Rangers attractive. He would get to play for a club that gets huge crowds and plays in Europe every season should he head north of the border.

Still, the Premier League is likely to dangle a bigger carrot. The league is more competitive and he’d likely earn a bigger salary should he join a team in the top flight when he does leave Bristol City.

Forest will now face serious competition to sign the talented EFL star. It will be interesting to monitor Semenyo and see where he ended up in the near future.
