Nottingham Forest midfielder Remo Freuler played the full 90 minutes as Switzerland lost 1-0 to Brazil yesterday. He was in pretty decent form, however, and received some praise from the national media for his efforts.
Freuler has now started both of his country’s games at the World Cup. With Serbia to play last in Group G, Switzerland remain on course to reach the knockout stages.
This was always going to be a big ask for Freuler and Co. Brazil are heavily fancied to win the competition this year and in fairness, Switzerland gave them a stern test here.

A late goal from Manchester United star Casemiro proved decisive though. He struck a late strike that Yann Sommer had no chance with to break the Swiss resolve.
Frreuler has slowly but surely started to prove his worth to Forest. He signed from Atalanta for a fee of £7.5 million in the summer and right now, he looks like an absolute steal.
The 30-year-old is calm and collected in midfield. Prior to the World Cup, he’d been playing in a midfield three of Cheikhou Kouyate and Ryan Yates.
Freuler has been thriving of late. As a result, it’s been great to see him perform well so far at the World Cup in Qatar and there is more to come from the player.
Forest star Freuler received praise from national media
In Switzerland, the player ratings can often be quite brutal. For example two of Freuler’s teammates were slammed as ‘jokers’ for their efforts during yesterday’s World Cup defeat.
Marked out of six, Freuler earned praise though. 20Min awarded him a five rating and they seemed pretty content with how he’d performed.
The publication claimed: “After a mediocre game against Cameroon, Freuler made a very good game against Brazil from the very first second.”

Freuler has been in fine form and it’s good to see him take that into the World Cup. It will be hoped that he can help his country progress by securing a big three points against Serbia.
For Forest, the main thing is that he returns back to the City Ground fit and healthy. The Reds will view Freuler as integral to their survival chances during 2022/23.
