Nottingham Forest were keen to sign Attila Szalai during the summer and now he could be set for Leicester. According to reports in Turkey, the Foxes are willing to offer £17 million plus Caglar Soyuncu to try and seal the deal.

The Reds went in search of defenders shortly after promotion. The Hungarian enforcer was one of the first names to be mentioned over a move to the City Ground after the win at Wembley.

Now, it would seem as though Forest aren’t in the mix. Moussa Niakhate and Willy Boly have been added to the ranks and although the Reds might go for another defender, Szalai could be unobtainable.

The 24-year-old currently plays football in Turkey with Fenerbahce. However, they seem resigned to him leaving Istanbul and seem to fancy the Leicester player in return for their star man.

Szalai has been with Fenerbahce since 2021 when he joined in the January transfer window. He quickly became a stalwart in Turkey and has played 90 times for the club since checking in.

The man with 31 caps for his country would welcome the move to the Premier League. He was a mainstay in his country’s Nations League campaign and played during two wins over England.

The uncompromising defender does look set to move to a European league at some point. He’s a quality defender and will be keen to ensure he tests himself at the highest level possible.

Szalai might remain on Forest’s hit list. It does seem unlikely that they will be able to rival Leicester when it comes to resources given the Foxes didn’t spend a penny in the summer.

The player would fit the profile nicely of a Forest signing. Szalai is a no-nonsense defender who is capable of playing out from the back.

He will be an asset for someone during the January transfer window. Right now, it looks as though Leicester lead all-comers in the chase to land him.
