England beat Senegal 3-0 to reach the quarter-final of the World Cup last night and Nottingham Forest defender Steve Cook was wowed by Jude Bellingham. The Three Lions will now take on France for a place in the last four of the competition next Saturday.

Gareth Southgate’s team are quietly going about their business. As France toiled somewhat against Poland for large parts and Argentina made a mess of beating Australia, England were fantastic against the AFCON champions and sent out a statement.

Bellingham is a star man in the England setup. It’s remarkable to believe that he’s only 19-years-old and he’s already dictating the play in a World Cup. He already looks like a mainstay in the team and alongside Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice last night he looked brilliant.

Cook reacted to the teenager’s performance last night. He took to Twitter to suggest that he was wowed by his performance as England looked the business in their quest to lift the famous prize.

The 31-year-old has been a surprise inclusion in Steve Cooper’s team this season. After winning promotion it was anticipated that he might be more of a backup option but he’s made 13 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

The defender is clearly invested in the World Cup. Forest have travelled out to Athens to continue their mid-season preparations and perhaps he was watching the game last night from afar.

Cook will hope to win his place back in the Forest team when domestic action returns. Prior to the international break, he was dropped to the bench, with Joe Worrall and Willy Boly preferred in defence.

For now, the experienced defender is enjoying the World Cup. He mentioned Birmingham’s decision to resign Bellingham’s shirt number when he was sold to Borussia Dortmund on his Twitter post.

The Reds need all the experience they can get during the second half of the campaign. Hopefully, Cook can be to Forest what the likes of Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker are to England.
