Ex-Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash enjoyed a World Cup to remember. Now, he’s backing one England player to put the brakes on Kylian Mbappe on Saturday night when they face France.
Cash played in all four games that Poland featured in at the World Cup. They progressed from a group featuring Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia; before losing to France in the last 16 on Sunday.
For the 25-year-old it proved a remarkable experience. He left Qatar with match-worn shirts from Mbappe and Lionel Messi who he had thankless tasks of marking during the tournament.
Cash is a great player and an even better bloke. He thoroughly deserved his moment in the Qatari sunshine and now he will go back to Aston Villa full of confidence for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.
The Reds were shellshocked when the defender decided to leave in 2020. He had been a regular in the team during 2019/20 but when Forest failed to make the play-offs, he joined Villa for £16 million.
Cash came up against Mbappe on Sunday as France beat Poland 3-1. The elite PSG star scored twice but the former Forest man thinks England might have a secret weapon when it comes to stopping him.
He told The Telegraph: “Kylian Mbappe is amazing but I think Kyle Walker is England’s best right-back and he’s just as quick.
“If anyone’s going to stop Mbappe, I think Kyle Walker is the man. He’s brilliant and he’s rapid as well.”
Cash backing England player to stop Mbappe
Forest fans worship Cash. Although he’s pledged his playing allegiances to Poland, it’s fair to say that he will still be rooting for England against France on Saturday night.
Walker will be in for a tough time on Saturday. Cash is right though and as England’s best right-back, it’s down to him to put the mockers on Mbappe.
England have a second successive semi-final in their sights. The Three Lions have grown into this tournament and face a thankless task against France.
It won’t just be Mbappe that needs stopping. Antoine Griezmann is playing well, whilst Adrien Rabiot and Olivier Giroud are also in fine form.
But England have their own quality players. Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden look key, whilst Harry Kane is one of the best centre-forwards in the world.
Saturday looks set to be a stunning occasion. Hopefully, ex-Forest star Cash is right and Walker has the game of his life against Mbappe.
