Rennes will terminate the loan of Nottingham Forest misfit Loic Bade during the January transfer window, according to Le Telegramme. The defender hasn’t played a single minute of action for the Reds during 2022/23, having arrived on transfer deadline day in August.

The player was expected to be a decent addition to the ranks. It was anticipated that he would bring some pace to the Forest defensive unit, with Moussa Niakhate picking up a hamstring problem.

Bade has struggled, however. Steve Cooper simply hasn’t fancied him at all and he’s been part of just one matchday squad when he was an unused substitute for the 1-0 defeat at Wolves.

Clearly, his parent club aren’t happy with the situation. As a result, they started work several weeks ago on trying to hook another club up with Bade when the January transfer window opens in a few weeks.

The 22-year-old was in the second half eleven on Friday as Forest lost to Stoke. He did play quite well but it seems that his days at the City Ground are now numbered and a new loan will be made for the second half of the campaign.

Forest could well sign a central defender during the window. With Niakhate still injured, Cooper will want to ensure that his squad is well-stocked defensively as the Reds aim to stay in the Championship.

Rennes will terminate loan of Bade and it’s the right decision

Some fans were starting to question whether or not Bade actually existed! He does though and during a mid-season friendly outing against Stoke, he actually looked pretty decent doing his defensive duties.

Still, he does seem a bit of a waste just sitting on the bench and in the stands at Forest. As a young player finding his way in the professional game, the player will be desperate to sample regular first-team football.

Forest might wonder what might have been with Bade. It will certainly be interesting to see where he rocks up next. If Rennes seek out an English club to take him, it could make for a very interesting signing indeed.

Bade just hasn’t worked out for Forest. Clearly, the Reds thought he’d be capable of making an impact in the top-flight but he’s simply not been able to impress Cooper sufficiently.
